aboutKatherine Rohrbacher is a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Katherine received her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005. In 2006 she was rewarded a painting fellowship and attended an artist residency at the Vermont Studio Center. She earned her MFA from the Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute Collage of Art in Baltimore in 2009. She lived in Los Angeles for the last seven years and returned to Fort Wayne in April 2016. She works in oil, acrylic and glitter. Katherine approaches painting as a means to reflect upon her experiences and to examine concepts of identity. Her work is not only self reflective in theme she also frequently uses her own image. Set against shimmery glitter, intricate patterns and colorful flora these solemn black and white self portraits produce an intriguing dichotomy that evokes feelings of melancholia and exuberance.
